Boon Companions is a goat club for the residents of mid-Missouri. Our members include breeders of Alpine, Boer, Kinder, Lamancha, Nigerian Dwarf, Nubian, Oberhasli, Recorded Grade, Saanen, Sable, Toggenburg and other breeds and crosses of goats. We encourage participation of youth in the goat industry through 4-H and FFA. We try to develop the knowledge base of the general public regarding goats by participating in community events where goats can be present and/or pamphlets or mini-lectures can be distributed or presented.
Boon Companions began in 1996 with a small group of people, Bill and Joan Wilcox, and Paige Garrett, wanting their own dairy goat show at the Boone County Fair. After 15 years of talking with the fair board, they had about given up, when the fairboard called them and asked if they would like to have a show. They quickly roped a few more "goat people" in and put on their first show which they paid for themselves. The name for the club came about when Paige was filling in the ADGA application for a sanctioned show. "What is the name of your club?" Boon Companion came to mind. A "blessed gift"; a "kindred spirit".
